About the organizer
Hello! My name is Dipika Sharma. Like most of us, for most of my life, I have worked to further opportunities for myself or my loved ones. I just turned 50. I have always wanted to do something to give back to the community. Nothing concrete was coming to my mind. Then one day, I realized that all my friends and family keep discussing about what to do with their beautiful clothes worth hundreds of dollars: worn once or twice at a few dinner parties, and then we want to mix up our wardrobe. But we also don’t want to trash our clothes so close to our heart. From this came the seeds for this non-profit, a platform for everyone to donate their pre-loved items so, you can declutter your closet, others can enjoy them at a very low price, and we can save them from reaching the landfill. With this thought in mind, I started this non-profit organization “Wear2Teach”; I hired a developer to create the website so you can buy and donate your pre-loved items with ease. All the proceeds will go towards college scholarships to underserved kids.
I still work full time. I spend 4-6 hours every evening and about 8-10 hours on weekends to sort, wash/dry-clean, sew (as required), iron, take pictures, upload images on the website and pack donated clothes so that they reach you in ready to wear state.
I have no prior experience in the field. I am learning by doing. Thus, any feedback and help is appreciated! Please reach out with any suggestions, to apply to volunteer, and/or to donate clothes!
Thank you and I cannot wait to receive and send you clothes!
